From Traditional Farming to International Chip Brands ¨C Netherlands L****S Agro-Processing Upgrades High-End Capacity with Intelligent Slicing Line

Client Name: L****S Agro-Processing B.V.

Country: Kingdom of the Netherlands

Region: Zeeland Province ¨C Premium potato production area in Europe

Core Products: Potato chip raw slices, frozen french fry slices, ready-to-eat potato slices, catering potato slices

Equipment Configuration: Hadof customized high-speed potato slicing production line (including continuous washing & peeling system, precision thickness-setting slicing unit, online color sorting & blanching pre-treatment module)

Commissioning Time: Q2 2019

The Netherlands is a world-leading potato processing and exporting country. The fertile soil and mild climate in Zeeland make it a core production area for high-quality potatoes. L****S has over 30 years of history in potato cultivation and primary processing, supplying many well-known European chip brands. As consumers demand increasingly consistent appearance and stable taste for potato chips, traditional manual slicing can no longer meet modern processing requirements.

Core Challenges in Potato Slicing:

Severe Insufficient Capacity: Over 50 tons of potatoesÐè processed daily during peak season. Manual slicing required over 200 workers in shifts, still unable to meet orders with delivery cycles up to 30 days.

Poor Thickness Uniformity: Manual slicing thickness deviation reached ¡À1.5mm, causing inconsistent frying and uneven chip color. High-end customer return rate was as high as 12%.

Starch Adhesion Issue: High starch content in potatoes caused severe blade adhesion. Cleaning required every 15 minutes, seriously disrupting continuous operation.

Severe Raw Material Waste: Irregular slicing led to over 15% scraps and leftovers, underutilizing high-quality potatoes and squeezing profit margins.

Solution: Building a Fully Automatic Potato Slicing System

Based on the characteristics of high-starch, irregular-shaped potatoes requiring batch continuous processing, Hadof customized a full-automatic potato slicing line for L****S:

1. Continuous Washing, Peeling & Intelligent Grading System

Front-end drum-type washing and peeling machine with 8 tons/hour capacity automatically removes sediment and skins. Visual grading sorts potatoes by size to provide uniform raw materials for slicing. Unmanned continuous operation is realized.

2. High-Precision Anti-Stick Slicing Unit

Special stainless steel blades with Teflon anti-stick coating, combined with high-pressure air blowing system, automatically remove starch adhesion during slicing. 8 hours of continuous operation without shutdown cleaning. Thickness adjustable 1mm¨C8mm with deviation controlled within ¡À0.2mm, meeting chips, fries, and lattice requirements. Servo system precisely matches blade speed and feeding speed for complete slices and smooth edges.

3. Online Color Sorting & Blanching Pre-treatment

High-speed visual color sorter automatically removes browned, greened slices and foreign matters with 99.8% accuracy. Qualified slices enter blanching machine (90¨C95¡ãC hot water for 15¨C30 seconds) to inactivate polyphenol oxidase, prevent browning, gelatinize partial starch, and improve crispness.

4. Cold Water Cooling & Vibratory Dewatering

Blanched potato slices enter cold water tank for rapid cooling to maintain crispness. Vibratory dewatering screen removes excess surface moisture for uniform water content, ensuring stable quality in subsequent frying or freezing processes.

Client Testimonial: From Raw Material Supplier to Pillar of European Chip Industry

Since full operation in 2019, L****S has achieved leapfrog development:

Capacity & Efficiency

Daily processing capacity increased from less than 15 tons (manual) to 50 tons per shift, up to 80 tons/day at full capacity, becoming the largest potato slicing base in southern Netherlands.

Labor optimization: Slicing staff reduced from 200 to 12 technicians, labor cost cut by over 90%, completely solving seasonal recruitment problems.

Quality & Market

Finished product qualification rate: Slice thickness consistency over 99%, scrap rate below 3%, regular appearance. High-end customer return rate dropped from 12% to 0.8%.

Market expansion: Successfully entered supply chains of top European chip brands (Lays, Pringles), annual export volume increased by 200%, becoming a key partner in the European chip industry.

Comprehensive Benefits

Raw material utilization: Improved from 83% to 95% through precision slicing and intelligent sorting, saving over €800,000 annually on potato costs.

Energy optimization: High-efficiency variable frequency motors and waste heat recovery system reduce unit power consumption by 25% compared with traditional equipment, winning Dutch green industry subsidies.

"Hadof's potato slicing line has achieved a qualitative leap in our processing capacity. Every potato slice now reaches European consumers' tables with precise thickness and perfect shape, fully reflecting our brand value. This is not only equipment upgrade but also the reshaping of our corporate competitiveness."
