From Frozen Soil to European Tables – Russia's B***E Agricultural Group Introduces Hadof Automatic Root Vegetable Washing Line to Solve Extreme Cold Washing Challenges

Client Name: B***E

Country: Russian Federation

Region: Moscow Oblast – Core black soil area in central Russia, main production area of beets, radishes, carrots, taro

Core Products: Red beets, red radishes, white radishes, taro, potatoes, carrots, parsnips

Equipment Configuration: Hadof Customized Brush Roller Cage + High-pressure Spraying + Ultrasonic Combined Root Washing Line (Compatible with Hot Water Mud Melting & Anti-freeze Drainage System)

Commissioning Time: Q4 2023

The central Russian black soil area is a world-famous fertile soil belt, producing high-sugar beets and crisp radishes. B***E Agricultural Group is the largest root vegetable supplier in Moscow, supplying Russia's top three supermarket chains and many food processing plants. However, Russia's unique extreme cold climate and soil conditions bring huge challenges to root vegetable cleaning:

Hard-to-remove Frozen Mud: Root vegetables harvested from frozen soil are covered with 2-3cm thick sticky frozen mud, which cannot be melted by normal-temperature cleaning, and manual knocking seriously damages the skin.

High Skin Damage Rate: Delicate skin of beets and taro is easily damaged by uneven force of traditional brush washers, with damage rate up to 18% and high supermarket return rate.

Sediment Residue in Roots: Carrots and parsnips have many root gaps with hidden sediment, low manual picking efficiency. A batch of carrots was once rejected by the EU due to sediment residue.

Winter Freezing Shutdown: Winter temperature drops to -30℃, traditional washing line water circulation system freezes overnight, almost unable to operate from November to March.

Solution: Finding a Cleaning System for Extreme Cold + Sticky Frozen Mud

The client's requirements were clear: normal operation at -30℃, complete removal of frozen mud without skin damage, and meeting EU export standards.

After comparing equipment from Germany and the Netherlands, the client chose our company. Our advantage lies in deep process adaptation for extreme cold environments and frozen mud, not general-purpose machines.

Solution: 4 Customized Designs for Extreme Cold Root Vegetables

1. Hot Water Pre-soaking + Ultrasonic Mud Melting System, 100% Frozen Mud Removal

Constant 45℃ hot water pre-soaking section with ultrasonic cavitation softens and removes frozen mud within 30 seconds without mechanical knocking. Test shows 100% mud removal and 0 skin damage for beets.

2. Multi-stage Flexible Brush Washing, Damage Rate Reduced to 1.5%

5-stage brush roller cage: hard brushes for large mud clods, soft brushes for fine cleaning, polishing brushes for smooth surface. Independent speed adjustment for delicate varieties, damage rate down from 18% to 1.5%.

3. 360° High-pressure Spraying + Special Root Nozzles

8kg/cm2 360° surround spraying with special fan nozzles thoroughly flushes sediment in root gaps. Clean roots pass EU visual inspection system.

4. Fully Enclosed Anti-freeze Circulation System, Normal Operation at -30℃

Heating cable + polyurethane insulation, built-in circulating heating for water tank and pipelines, constant water temperature 15-20℃. 24-hour continuous operation even at -30℃, solving winter shutdown problem completely.

Client Testimonial: Russian Root Vegetables Return to European Market

After 1 year of operation, B***E Agricultural Group has achieved remarkable transformation.

Capacity & Market Breakthrough

Daily capacity increased from 15 tons (manual, limited by winter) to 45 tons (automatic), year-round operation. On-time delivery rate rose from 65% to 98%.

Export recovery: Cleaned beets and carrots passed EU pesticide residue and microbial tests, resumed exports to Poland and Germany in 2024 with 30,000 tons of orders, a record high.

Significant Economic Benefits

ROI: Labor reduced from 60 to 6 workers, saving over 40 million rubles/year. Full investment recovered in < 22 months.

Loss reduction: Damage rate down from 18% to 1.5%, saving over 20 million rubles/year.

Industry Benchmark

First root washing line in Russia for continuous operation in extreme cold. Won "Technological Innovation Award" from Russian Ministry of Agriculture.

"We used to watch orders lost every winter. Now Hadof's equipment turns Russian frozen soil into gold – beets shine like rubies after cleaning. German clients say these are the cleanest root vegetables they've ever seen. This is the warmth of technology."
